This bridge is one of several unusual Pratt truss bridges in this county which are noted for a unique ornamental portal bracing design. The design features a series of punched holes in the portal bracing which spell out Gonzales County. The portal is further enhanced by portal cresting, which is normally uncommon for rural bridges like this. Although the plaques are missing on this bridge, it is assumed that the obscure bridge company New Jersey Steel and Iron Company of Trenton, New Jersey built this bridge as they did the other two bridges of this style in the county. This bridge includes a pin-connected pony truss approach span at one end which is noted for its lacing on the top of the top chord and end post. The other end has a standard Texas design Warren pony truss which is assumed to be a replacement for a span that would have been like the pin-connected pony truss approach span.
As of 2022, the county plans to demolish this bridge in 2023 for no other reason than to wipe a unique bridge off the face of the earth. This bridge could easily by bypassed and left standing. Notice how the road is aligned, the logical location for a replacement bridge straightens the road out and bypasses the bridge. The bridge has hardly any section loss or pack rust and would likely stand for decades if bypassed.
