Bridge Documentation

This concrete arch bridge was designed with a lot of aesthetic details that made this a truly beautiful bridge. HistoricBridges.org is proud to present photos of this bridge taken just before a massive reconstruction project took place later in 2019. The project was a bit of a compromise in terms of preservation. While the bridge was not demolished, it was altered to an extent that the bridge is no longer considered eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. It is preferable to see bridges retain eligibility in rehabilitation, but at the same time, this is still a better outcome than total demolition and replacement. Prior to this project the bridge was an outstanding example of a concrete arch bridge, noted for its lack of alteration and substantial architectural details. If you visit the bridge today, the only thing original you will see on the bridge is the arch ribs and piers. Everything above the ribs is all-new construction. The new railings are Texas style aesthetic railings, but do not replicate the original bridge railing design.
