This is a cool looking through truss bascule rail bridge that is visible from the I-75 Bridge nearby as well as from the Jefferson Avenue Bridge. You can't get close to this bridge unless you have a boat, but either way it looks nice from a distance anyway.
The bridge is a Strauss overhead counterweight heel-trunnion bascule bridge. Strauss Bascule Bridge Company provided design services for the bridge. Wisconsin Bridge and Iron Company is reported to be the superstructure. Missouri Valley Bridge and Iron Company of Leavenworth, Kansas appears to have been the substructure contractor, because Volume 212 of Michigan Reports for 1920 which details Michigan Supreme Court decisions describes a claim brought against this company for a death caused by a worker who was decompressed too quickly after working in a caisson.
