Bridge Documentation

The bridge was reportedly built ca. 1891 as a railroad bridge. The National Register of Historic Places Nomination form mentions a construction date of 1912 which corresponds to when the railroad was built in this area. As such, it is assumed that the bridge was relocated from another railroad to this location in 1912. The bridge and railroad line was converted to highway usage in 1946 when the railroad discontinued. The bridge was closed to vehicular traffic in 1987 when a new bridge on different alignment was completed. After this the bridge was abandoned. As a result today, this rare Phoenix Column truss bridge sits abandoned and forgotten. It is worthy of reuse and preservation. There is very little deterioration on its wrought iron, and it would be an outstanding candidate for relocation and reuse on a trail or in a park.
