Bridge Documentation

This is one of the only surviving bowstring bridges in Wisconsin and given the age and rarity of the bridge type is one of the most significant highway bridges in Wisconsin. Two spans of a four span bridge in Milford, Wisoncin were moved here to serve as access for a small island. As configured today, the bridge provides pedestrian access to the island which is a park and nature walk. When these two spans were moved here ca. 1906, the island was serving as a recreation island and beer garden.

The two spans of this bridge are not identical, one span being five feet shorter in length and four inches shorter in truss height.

The trusses remain in good condition with surprisingly few alterations. The trusses are leaning slightly, this is a common problem with King Bridge bowstrings due to the lack of extensive bracing and outriggers. Bach Steel, a company that has restored more King bowstring bridges than any other company, could restore the bridge and fix this problem. The concrete pier is in bad condition as well.
