This bridge is a good, and uncommon example of a multi-span lattice through truss. It is follows the earlier design of two lattice truss bridge designs typically used by the Chicago and NorthWestern Railroad. The earlier design features ornamental portal bracing.
This bridge originally had six lattice truss spans, but two 160 foot lattice truss spans were destroyed in 1993 when a fire caused a pier to burn, collapsing the spans. Following this, two riveted deck plate girder spans were relocated and reused on this bridge from the abandoned Lake Wissota Bridge. At this time, some new steel stringer spans were installed too.
Currently, the bridge has from north to south, a 24 foot steel stringer span, three 100 foot deck plate girder spans, a 12 foot steel stringer span, two 160 foot 13 panel lattice truss spans, two eight panel 100 foot lattice truss spans, and four wooden trestle spans totaling 51 feet.
