This attractive arch bridge is also noted as a rare example of a Melan type arch bridge with solid steel reinforcing. It is also noteworthy for its aesthetic qualities which were the product of noted architect Nathan C. Wyeth. An unusual detail of the bridge's construction is that a contractor did not build the bridge, instead the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers used day laborers to complete the work. The Blaw-Knox Company provided riveted steel centering (falsework). The below photos appeared in the Blaw-Knox Company catalog showing the centering being used in the construction of the bridge.
