Bridge Documentation

This enormous combined highway and railroad cantilever truss bridge has an elaborate ramp system for both the railroad deck and the two cantilevered highway decks as well. In 1989, the highway decks were widened by four feet. Contractors for the bridge included Kansas City Bridge Company of Kansas City, Missouri, Uvalde Construction Company of Dallas, Texas, and Bethlehem Steel Company of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Norman E. Lant, who worked for the Louisiana Highway Commission, designed the bridge. The website bridgehunter.com also lists the following people as builders or designers of the bridge, but it is not known what source contributed that information, nor what roles (if any) these people may have played in the construction of the bridge: C. G. Melville, E. L. Durkee, and Harry Henderlite.
