This bridge is one of the only bridges surviving that has the rare Kahn system of concrete reinforcing, which consists of "trussed" rebar. This type of reinforcing was designed by Julius Kahn, and often used by his brother Albert Kahn who was a famous architect and built many early concrete buildings. The unusual concrete arch design which has approach spans at each end uses the cantilever method in its design. The end spans cantilever out from the piers.
Some sources report a 1925 construction date for this bridge; that is incorrect, the bridge is documented in a 1911 engineering periodical.
A 2001 rehabilitation replaced the original railings with new railing of similar appearance.
