Information and Findings From Pennsylvania's Historic Bridge Inventory

Discussion of Bridge

The 2 span, 158'-long reinforced concrete open spandrel arch bridge has arched structs between the plain spandrel columns. Cantilevered sidewalk brackets support the rectangular-holed concrete balustrades. Built in 1929, it is a short and late example of a technology that is well represented throughout the state dating to the1906. There are over 50 extant examples in the state, and it is the early, large, and exceptionally well detailed ones that represent significance of the technology. Neither this bridge nor its setting are historically or technologically significant.

Discussion of Surrounding Area

The bridge carries a 2 lane street with 2 sidewalks over the Schuylkill River in the borough of Schuylkill Haven. A ca. 1994 public housing project is adjacent to one quadrant, and the others are either open or forested land. Broadway is just off the main street.
